The Press Council is the initiator of the Timor-Leste Fact Check verification team.

Timor-Leste Fact Check was created through basic online fact check training in October-December 2021 and continued with advanced fact-checking training, on 15-18 November 2022 as in a new country in southeast of Asia, Timor-Leste has almost four hundred thousand (400,000) people use social media. The fact shows that some people have no responsibility to use social media to produce and disseminate deformation and false news. In order to combat deformation and false news in social media through digital fragments.

In Timor Leste, since 2022, more than 140 people had trained on fact-checking. These trainings was held by TLPC, journalists associations, universities and in collaboration with Cek Fakta Indonesia with supported by UNESCO and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Timor-Leste Fact Check is composed of journalists, members of the Association of Journalists such as AJTL, TLPU, UPJTL, Youth Organizations or youth groups such as Youth Change Organizations FHM, Alumni of the Youth Parliament APFTL, UNDIL, UNITAL, ISFIT and UNTL and staff of the Press Council of Timor-Leste.
